We took a bus from Vienna (Metro Erdburg station - U3Line) to Budapest (HUNGARY)....which was around 3 hours. Train took the same time and bus was little bit cheaper, $E29, train $E36. The bus was in a very good condition with a washroom too!! Upon reaching Budapest, it stops at Nepliget - International Bus Station.
We stayed at Riverside Hostel Budapest at Pest side. Though it looks a bit errr...not too pleasant from outside..but it's a very clean hostel. It has kitchen too and free internet too. It's only a few mins walk from Nyugati Palyaudvar Station. More information could be found on Hungary's transportation In Budapest, walking is possible but buying the day ticket would be better. This city is quite particular about stamping the ticket, so please validate the ticket in the machines before getting up any transport!
Upon arriving, Budapest didn't give us quite a good impression as we were fined for $E56 for 2 of us upon arriving our destinated station with our luggages!!!! What I still didn't understand was upon ENTERING the metro subway, there were 2 officers checking the tickets-there was no validation machines there so I took it for granted that the tickets were already "checked"!!On top of that he gestured us to pass WITHOUT ASKING us to validate our tickets. So why the heck would you want to put 2 officers there since they are not checking anything???So back to my fine story, we told them we are tourists just arrived (obvious with our luggages) As they spoke no English, they only insisted Hungary Forint 6000 = RM130. What to do but to pay that fine!! There goes the start of our vacation in Budapest.....

Well, other than the fine, Budapest is worth a visit, since they haven't converted their currency to Euro....To get a better picture of the Parliament, a visit to Fisherman's Bastion/Castle is essential.
To get to Fisherman & Castle, stop at Mozskva Metro Station, there will be a little bus which takes you through the small Buda and stops right in front of the Bastion & Castle.
